Employment Ambassadors

We are working with a group of people with a learning disability to train them to become paid Employment Ambassadors. This is part of the I'm a Person Too equality training that helps people to understand about learning disability.

Employment Ambassadors will go to big companies to train the staff in how to best support people with a learning disability that work for or could work for them.

Some people with a learning disability are not treated right at work and lots of people with a learning disability do not have a job when they could have if they had the right support and the same chances as other people.

We pay people for the time that they work on the project. Some people will help to make the training resources like slides, films and activities. Some people will be paid to deliver the training. Some people will do both jobs.

Equality and Diversity co-trainers

As part of our BME project, we work with people with a learning disability to train them to be Equality and Diversity trainers.

Equality and diversity is about being treated fairly and with respect.

The trainers help to make the training package and to deliver the training. They get paid to deliver the training. If you are interested in becoming a trainer, please contact Bev at Advocacy in Greenwich.

The trainers will go to groups of people who have a learning disability that use day services or residential care settings. It is to help people to understand when they are being treated unfairly and to know if they are treating people unfairly.

This is what some of the co trainers have to say about delivering the training:

"Delivering training gave me more confidence."

"The group is good. It is interesting. I like learning about what equality and diversity is."

"It helped to build my confidence up and learn how to speak up in front of people."
